Tweedmill Update (Spring 2009)
With the season under way the river is now in fine order. River levels remained high over the winter period and the ground water table should be well topped up. The opening weeks were fair throughout the river system, with the bulk of fish coming from and around the Kelso area. After the initial flurry of activity things have quietened down as with most of the east coast rivers. We are all eagerly awaiting the heavier runs of spring fish. The size so far this year has been good with fish in the high teens.
- TIP: As usual at spring time, go prepared with a selection of lines as water temperatures and heights can vary overnight.
- TIP:A good bet at this time of year is a Black and Yellow or Golden Gunn in a variety of sizes, half to two inch brass tubes and dressed patterns in 4s, 6s and 8s
- TIP: For those wishing to spin Devon Minnows- yellow bellies or black and gold. Rapalas can also work well when the water temperature warms slightly, in clear water blue and silver or black and silver, in coloured water orange and gold (the Carrot!), all might do the trick.
- TIP: If you're venturing up to your fishing maybe this is the time to brush up on your techniques for the start of the week and book a casting lesson, or alternatively go out into an open space and practice your casting so that your muscle memory is in tune.
- TIP: With smaller flies becoming more prominent at this time of year a good knot to let the fly swim freely is the rapala knot. See article on how to tie this in Trout & Salmon June 2008 edition.

Good Year for Tweedmill (January 2008)
The 2007 season was a record year for the Tweedmill beat on the river Tweed. Over 1000 salmon were caught, most of which were released giving Tweedmill the highest percentage of returned fish on the Tweed system. With a new season under way expectations are high for the 2008.
